Spelling Bee Solver
Enter the seven letters of the puzzle and the one in the middle. Words must be at least four letters long, must use the centre letter, and may reuse any letter.
How scoring works
- A four-letter word is worth 1 point.
- Longer words are worth one point per letter — a seven-letter word is 7.
- A pangram uses all seven letters and earns 7 extra points.
- Every letter may be used as many times as you like.
- The centre letter must appear in every word.
Our list comes from the Scrabble dictionaries, so it is wider than the puzzle’s own. Expect a few words the game will not accept — but the pangram is almost always there.
Find the pangram first, then everything else
The pangram is worth seven points on top of its length, which makes it worth more than most of the four-letter words you will find all round put together. It is also the hardest thing to see by eye, because the seven letters rarely suggest a word in the order they are drawn on the hive. That is why pangrams are listed separately at the top of the results here rather than mixed in by length.
A useful habit while you are still hunting by hand: the centre letter plus the two or three rarest letters in the hive usually appear together in exactly one word, and that word is the pangram.
Why our list is wider than the puzzle’s
The New York Times keeps its own curated word list, and it is deliberately smaller than a Scrabble dictionary: obscure, technical and offensive words are left out, even when they are perfectly real. We search the lists we hold, so some of what you see here will be refused by the game.
We would rather show you a word the puzzle rejects than hide one it accepts. The reverse mistake — a solver that quietly omits words — leaves you certain there is nothing left to find when there is.
Common questions
Can letters repeat? Yes, as often as you like. That is what separates this from an anagram puzzle: seven letters can build words far longer than seven.
Do four-letter words matter? They matter for reaching the next rank, and they matter very little for the score itself. If you are chasing Queen Bee, they are compulsory; if you are chasing points, go long.
Are proper nouns and hyphenated words allowed? No, in the puzzle or here. Both are absent from the word lists we search.
Why is a word I entered missing? Check that it contains the centre letter and is at least four letters long — those two rules account for nearly every case.
