What does TESTON mean in Scrabble?

noun

historical

An old silver coin, issued in France, England, and other European states, bearing a portrait bust of the ruling monarch.

Numismatists use teston for an old silver coin whose name comes from the Italian testa, meaning head, because its obverse showed a bust of the reigning king or duke rather than the older heraldic designs. Versions of the teston circulated in sixteenth-century France, England, and Milan, with values that shifted over time and place. In England the teston was eventually replaced by the sixpence, which some writers still called by the older name.

How TESTON is used

Found mainly in history and numismatics writing about early modern European coinage.
