What does TEASEL mean in Scrabble?
noun
botany
A tall Eurasian plant with prickly, egg-shaped flower heads, whose dried heads were once used to raise the nap on woven cloth.
A teasel produces a stiff, spiny flower head covered in small hooked bracts, and for centuries cloth workers mounted dried teasel heads on frames or spindles to brush woven wool, raising a soft nap without cutting the fibres. Machines with metal teeth later replaced the plant in most mills, but the word teasel stuck to the process as well as the plant itself. Teasel also survives as a verb, meaning to raise nap in this traditional way.
How TEASEL is used
