A round, domed tomb of ancient Greece, built in the shape of a beehive.
The tholos was a Mycenaean burial chamber made of stone blocks laid in rings, each ring closer to the center, until the roof closed at the top. The best-known example is the so-called Treasury of Atreus at Mycenae. In classical Greece the word was also used for a round building such as the one at Epidauros. The plural is tholoi.
