What does POYOU mean in Scrabble?
noun
zoology
A six-banded armadillo of South America, with a bony, hinged shell and coarse hair between its plates.
The poyou, also known scientifically as Euphractus sexcinctus, lives across the grasslands and scrub of South America, where it digs burrows and feeds on insects, small animals, and plant matter. Unlike some of its smoother relatives, the poyou has visible bristly hairs growing from between the bony bands of its shell. Older natural history writing sometimes calls it simply the six-banded armadillo, and poyou survives today mainly as a specialist or historical name for the same animal. The word entered English through earlier zoological description of South American wildlife.
