What does NEREID mean in Scrabble?
noun
In Greek mythology, any of the sea nymphs who were daughters of the sea god Nereus.
Greek myth describes fifty nereids who attended the sea god Poseidon and were often shown riding dolphins or sea horses; the most famous nereid, Thetis, was the mother of the hero Achilles. Sculptors and painters used a nereid as a graceful symbol of the sea long after the original myths lost their religious force. The same word later entered zoology as the name for a family of marine worms, quite unrelated to the mythical figure beyond the borrowed name.
How NEREID is used
Chiefly literary and mythological, though the same word also names a family of marine worms in zoology and one of the moons of Neptune.
