About this list
The largest of the Scrabble word lists. The great majority of the words we hold appear in it, and roughly a quarter of everything in our database appears in Collins and in no other list.
Why we publish these numbers
Most word finders show you a dictionary without telling you which edition it came from or when it was last updated. That makes their answer impossible to check: if your opponent challenges a word, you cannot tell whether the tool was working from a list that is still current.
The two numbers worth comparing are how many words the published edition claims and how many we actually hold. When both are known and they disagree, that gap is real information — about our data, not about yours. We would rather show it than hide it.
