What does CENTAS mean in Scrabble?
noun
historical
A former monetary unit of Lithuania, equal to one hundredth of a litas.
The centas served as the small-change subunit of the Lithuanian litas, much as a cent relates to a dollar, and coins worth a handful of centas circulated alongside litas banknotes. The currency was introduced in the 1920s, suspended during the Soviet occupation, and reintroduced after Lithuania regained independence in the early 1990s. Both the litas and the centas were finally withdrawn when Lithuania adopted the euro in 2015. Collectors of coins and specialists in Baltic history are now the people most likely to encounter the word.
